1. Introduction to Diet, Nutrition & Oral Health: Diet and Nutrition are an important part of health at all stages of life. Some aspects of diet will promote oral health whilst others will contribute to oral/dental disease. The Oral Health Professional will often need to discuss diet with patients for a wide range of reasons. A. List 5 conditions or situations where diet should be included in supporting your patients: 5 marks B. Dietary intervention can be Proactive or Reactive. Explain what this means and give an example of each: 4 marks 2. What has influenced your Diet & Food choices? Think about your own diet and food choices and answer the following questions. You can limit your response to a brief paragraph. We welcome the use of pictures to enhance your work for this section. A. Consider 3 factors that you think are the most important in having influenced& shaped your diet and explain briefly how: 9 marks B. What are 2 of your favourite foods and explain what has influenced your choice: 6 marks C. What are 2 foods that you really dislike and explain why: 6 marks D. Stages of undertaking a dietary consultation In order to provide dietary advice to another person, you need to know something about their food choices and dietary habits. There are different methods of asking patients about their diet. These were discussed in the lecture. Two commonly used methods include the 24 hour recall and the Diet History.
